The Memorial Day Weekend marked an upsurge in air travel numbers across the US. Over the long weekend, air passenger volumes reached their highest level since before the coronavirus pandemic began, signaling the sector’s continued recovery. From Friday through Monday, the Transportation Security Administration screened an average of 1.78 million travelers, with a peak of 1.96 million on Friday. These numbers are more than six times greater than a year ago, yet they are still 22% lower than the Memorial Day weekend in 2019.
Most major airlines have reported increased bookings. This is quite likely as a result of COVID-19 vaccines, a decrease in case numbers, the relaxation of travel restrictions, and the reopening of tourist attractions. Experts predict that travel will continue to rise steadily now that many Americans have been vaccinated and airlines are adding more flights.
The increased travel means more demand for airport parking spots too. Airport parking garages are getting full once again. However, several onsite airport parking lots aren’t still fully open.
