Thankfully spring break 2022 seems to be very much on the cards as long you aren’t lax about travel safety. So, this year, chill out and leave your worries way behind as you go on a spring break getaway with your family.

Even though spring break usually conjures up images of college students looking to let loose, there are plenty of spring break destinations that families can enjoy as well. Whether you want to explore a nearby national park or get your dose of vitamin ‘sea,’ we have some pretty great suggestions! 1.    Kauai, Hawaii

Kids and grown-ups will enjoy a break at this picturesque island on the northernmost tip of Hawaii. Kauai is not as well-known as Honolulu and Oahu. The beaches here are far less crowded, which works in its favor as the perfect spring break destination for families! Watching the sunset at Waimea Canyon, taking a train ride through the Kilohana Plantation, and boating on the Na Pali Coast are things everyone will enjoy. Don’t forget to book a table at a luau for fun and great food!

2.    Boulder, Colorado

Breathe in the bracing mountain air in this scenic town surrounded by the Rockies. There’s plenty of things to do here for parents and children of all ages. Older children will enjoy hiking through the many beautiful trails here. At the same time, younger kids will love the innumerable diversions on Pearl Street. Also, Boulder is located within an hour of Denver and the Rocky Mountain National Park, making it the ideal starting point for day trips. If there’s enough snow, skiing and sledding can be fun things to do. If it’s warm enough, head out to the Boulder Reservoir for a swim.

And don’t forget the traditional Mayan performances held on the beach in the evenings!

With its white sandy beaches, swaying palms, and pleasant sea breeze, Sanibel Island has all the fixings of a perfect beachy getaway. What makes it perfect for families are exciting, family-friendly things to do. You can visit the J.N. (Ding) Darling National Wildlife Refuge, The Botanical Gardens at Sanibel Moorings, or go kayaking. These are not Sanibel Island’s main attractions, though. Sanibel island beaches are covered with a stunning variety of shells of different shapes, sizes, and colors. You can spend days beachcombing through the shells to find a perfect one to take home with you. Just make sure it’s not live!

 

5.     Sedona, Arizona

The red rock country with its gorgeous blue is one of the most visually striking places to visit. The desert town has always been a go-to spring break destination for families, thanks to its plenty of outdoor activities and cultural riches. There’s truly no shortage of fun things to do in Sedona, with spectacular sunsets to chase and national parks to explore galleries. There are oodles of outdoor activities here for adventurous families. These include hiking, zip-lining, hot-air ballooning, and off-roading. Once you tire of the outdoors, you can check out all the museums and Native American crafts in the town. The Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village offers a taste of Old Mexico and is a must-not-miss destination.

6.    Lake Tahoe, California

Unlike many ski towns, Lake Tahoe can be enjoyed all year round, especially in spring! This easy-going mountain town boasts stunning views of the lake, high-end resorts, and lakeside casinos. That’s not all that Lake Tahoe has to offer as a spring break destinations for families. There are lots of fun, family-friendly outdoor activities to be enjoyed here. Take a steamboat cruise around the lake, or pack up a picnic lunch and spend the day at Fallen Leaf Lake. Go hiking on the historic Rubicon Trail (a mostly flat, 5-mile trail that kids can handle) or one of the several trails around Emerald Bay State Park.

San Diego is a fantastic spring break destination for families with children, with everything from beaches to zoos and museums. One of the major attractions for families is the famous San Diego Zoo. Families can easily spend a whole day exploring the sprawling 100-acre park. Kids will love the variety of wildlife here – gorillas, pandas, lions, and elephants. San Diego Zoo is inside Balboa Park, which plays host to around 15 museums and galleries. Seaworld San Diego hosts some awesome shows like the Dolphin show, Sea Lion show, and even a Killer Whale show! And another must-visit for families is Legoland, California. Museums you can visit include the Air and Space Museum, New Children’s Museum, and San Diego Model Railroad Museum. If you have time to spare, squeeze in a visit to the historic aircraft carrier, the USS Midway.

The beach is the main attraction, of course, and you can choose to lounge around in the sun while the kids build sandcastles. You could also visit the Ripley’s Aquarium, Hollywood Wax Museum, or Myrtle Beach State Park. Ride the Skywheel for amazing views of Myrtle Beach or spend time shopping at Broadway at the Beach. Kids will probably enjoy a visit to the interactive science museum, WonderWorks.

9.    Chincoteague, Virginia

Wild ponies, stunning beaches, and some of the best ice cream in America – do we need to say more? This quaint small town on Virginia’s Eastern Shore has plenty to keep families engaged and easy access to Assateague Island. Children will be thrilled to see the ponies, so head out to Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and try to see them before they shed their shaggy winter coats. Another thing that children will enjoy is crabbing! In fact, crabbing, clamming, and fishing are all very popular here. You can also make your way to the pristine beaches in Assateague, which is just a quarter of a mile away. Don’t forget to try out the ice cream on Chincoteague Island. 10. St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands

If your children are a little older, you can opt to paddle through a maze of mangroves to the uninhabited island of Cas Cay. Zip-lining and para-sailing are some of the other fun activities on St. Thomas.
