The fest was forced to cancel in 2020 due to the pandemic. However, Governors Ball Music Festival returned in 2021 with a stellar lineup including Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, A$AP Rocky, Phoebe Bridgers, and J Balvin.
Governors Ball Music Festival drew 150,000 music aficionados from September 24 to 26 in 2021.
The Governors Ball Music Festival 2022 will once again skip its traditional location, Randall’s Island, in favor of the more accessible Citi Field. In 2022, the festival will happen, once again, in the parking lots surrounding Citi Field.

Other than the headliners – J.Cole, Halsey, and Kid Cudi, this year’s Gov Ball lineup includes Flume, Glass Animals, Jack Harlow, Black Pumas, Roddy Rich, Migos, Jazmine Sullivan, Playboy Carti, Tove Lo, Beabadoobee, Jax, and Diesel (Shaquille O’Neal).
Why is it called Governors Ball and why is it not on Governors Island?
When the music festival was first held in 2011, it was a single-day event on Governors Island. Hence the name Governors Ball.
After the inaugural year, the Gov Ball moved to Randall’s Island to have room for more acts and attendees.Gov Ball then moved again in 2021 to its current venue – the easily accessible Citi Field.
In contrast to Randall’s Island Park, Citi Field is easily accessible by subway, Long Island Rail Road, bus, bike, scooter, and foot. Also, the weather is not so much of a problem compared to the earlier venue. Citi Field can accommodate multiple stages that allow several artists to perform simultaneously.

Where should I park for the Governors Ball Music Festival?
There will be very limited parking at Citi Field during Gov Ball. These spots need to be booked ahead online, and there will be no way to pay for parking on-site. You will be turned away if you haven’t reserved your spot online.
However, there’s plenty of parking near Citi Field, that too at much lower costs. You can book these Citi Field parking spots and NYC parking spots online on the Way.com website or the Way App.
What is Gov Ball’s COVID-19 policy? Are there any requirements for entry to the fest?
On the website, the organizers state that they work closely with city and state officials on COVID-19. Attendance at the festival will now require a full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.
Acceptable documents include your actual vaccination card, a photocopy or photo of your immunization card, or the NYC Covid Safe or NYS Excelsior apps. Any updates to the policy will be shared via the official website and social media handles.
The last Moderna or Pfizer (or single Johnson & Johnson) dose must be obtained two weeks before Gov Ball. The COVID-19 vaccine is available at www.vaccinefinder.org.
Those who aren’t fully vaccinated must have a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours (3 days) of each day of attendance. Your negative COVID-19 test result or a photocopy of your negative COVID-19 test result will be examined upon entrance.
Will I get a refund if the Gov Ball is canceled/rescheduled due to COVID-19 or bad weather?
Yes; If the festival is canceled or rescheduled, you will have the option of obtaining a refund or transferring your tickets over to the 2023 event.
