As Memorial Day approaches, more and more Americans are traveling! With the decline in Covid-19 infection rates, increased vaccine rates, and the reopening of resorts, beaches, and other tourist destinations, there is a surge in demand for travel bookings. This demand is expected to rise as we get closer to Memorial Day.
In fact, the American Automobile Association or AAA predicts a 60% increase in the number of people traveling over the long weekend when compared to the record lows of last year. It is expected that almost 2.5 million Americans will board flights on Memorial Day, almost six times the number last year!
Several airports that had shut down or downsized airport parking are bracing themselves for the onslaught of airport parking bookings. We’re going to be taking a look at four airports – SeaTac Airport, Miami Airport, Chicago O’Hare Airport, and Dallas Fort Worth Airport to see what travelers can expect while traveling from there.
If you’re planning to fly out of SeaTac Airport, you’ll be interested to know that 100,000 passengers a day are projected to travel through SeaTac airport during this year’s Memorial Day weekend. SeaTac airport estimates that around 40,000 passengers will pass through security checkpoints on Thursday, May 27, and Friday, May 28. TSA is, in fact, recommending passengers get to their flights two hours ahead of time for domestic flights and three hours ahead of time for international flights. With these kinds of passenger numbers, you would do well to book your SeaTac Airport parking spot online, so you don’t need to worry about it on the day you travel.
Miami Airport is prepping with onsite Covid testing as well as vaccinations. If you’re traveling from Miami this week, you might want to prep by booking your Miami Airport parking spot as soon as possible! Dallas Fort Worth International Airport expects traffic to exceed 90% of 2019 levels since American Airlines is rerouting more traffic via its primary hub. They aren’t the only ones – Spirit Airlines is increasing the number of flights to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, while Frontier Airlines is increasing flights from DFW to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. Last year, you could get a flight to pretty much anywhere for dirt cheap from DFW, but this year it’ll be harder to find low prices for air tickets as well as Dallas Airport parking. People looking for rental cars at DFW are already finding it tough to find any!
Chicago’s O’Hare Airport expects more than 395,000 expected passengers on Memorial Day. With the people mover trains still out of order, it would be best to drive yourself down to O’Hare Airport after booking your ORD Airport parking spot online.
With everyone rushing to get somewhere over the long weekend, travelers may find air tickets and hotel reservations difficult to book or even sold out. The same holds true for airport parking too. Book your spot ahead, so you don’t need to spend the long weekend worrying about your car’s safety.
