Is it one of those dreary days when you doomscroll and can’t seem to find anything interesting? Not even YouTube’s vast list of “watch later” videos? Then what about a quick swipe to Progressive’s brilliant advertising with Baker Mayfield?<\/span><\/p>\n

We chuckle or giggle every time he complains about how much cheese he brought to the book group or tries to cover the seats when it starts raining, presumably because the advertisement is clever and, most importantly, because Mayfield is delightful. Is that all there is to it? Is Baker Mayfield a cute young actor that appears in Progressive advertisements each year? Certainly not! <\/span>He is an American football quarterback for the National Football League’s Cleveland Browns (NFL). Those who know him prefer him to be the “Ad-guy” who makes everyone laugh.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the official NFL website, Baker Mayfield established the record for most touchdown passes by a rookie quarterback. He was also included in the Cleveland Browns’ Top 100 Players list for the season. Mayfield led Cleveland to their first win in 19 games in his NFL debut, snapping a 635-day drought, and went on to establish the rookie QB record for throwing touchdowns. Mayfield faltered in his second season, but he bounced back in 2020, leading the Browns to their first playoff participation since 2002 and their first victory since 1994.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Progressive Insurance commercials blend home insurance with football comedy. They spent the majority of their advertising dollars on At Home with Baker Mayfield, a lucrative and amusing series of advertisements featuring the quarterback. He has had seven separate ads appear since the start of the 2021 season, compared to only six wins. Progressive ad execs were drawn to Mayfield’s NFL success and personality. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They had a novel pitch: presenting Mayfield and his wife, Emily, as suburbia homeowners coping with everyday issues. <\/span>Sounds easy enough, except they’d be playing at FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Cleveland Browns. While the concept may seem strange in principle, according to the Akron Beacon Journal, Baker was quite pleased about the Progressive advertising following the initial pitch meeting. Emily was hesitant before hearing the pitch, but once she heard it, she was all in. The challenge with advertisements (particularly in the United States) is that they become monotonous after a while, but Bakers has enough charisma to prove otherwise.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mayfield has had seven separate commercials broadcast since the start of the 2021 season. He has already had two new Progressive advertisements run on television in 2022.
