{"id":38053,"date":"2022-03-28T23:48:34","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T23:48:34","guid":{"rendered":" https:\/\/dev.way.com\/blog\/?p=38053"},"modified":"2022-05-19T20:17:05","modified_gmt":"2022-05-19T20:17:05","slug":"56-of-americans-are-driving-less-due-to-gas-prices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.way.com\/journal\/56-of-americans-are-driving-less-due-to-gas-prices\/","title":{"rendered":"56% of Americans are Driving Less Due to Gas Prices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With gas prices soaring across the states, we wanted to check the temperature on how people were feeling about our current fuel issues and electric vehicles as an alternative.<\/p>\n<p>Experts are estimating that the<a href=\" https:\/\/dev.way.com\/blog\/gas-shortage-prices-united-states\/\"> average gas price<\/a> per gallon may exceed $5 across many parts of the country in the next six months. In 2020, the average gas price was around $2.242 per gallon, and it increased to $3.133 per gallon in 2021, recording a surge of 39.7 percent. The average price per gallon was around $3.50 this past January, and it surged to $3.675 in February. In March, the average price per gallon stands at $4.289.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/blog-one.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-38071\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/blog-one.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"617\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wordwblog02.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/blog-one.png 817w, http:\/\/wordwblog02.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/blog-one-300x194.png 300w, http:\/\/wordwblog02.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/blog-one-768x496.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 617px) 100vw, 617px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So how is this impacting the American driver? A lot. Over 56% of those surveyed said they were feeling the pain at the pump and were now driving less to the<a href=\" https:\/\/dev.way.com\/blog\/why-are-gas-prices-rising\/\"> increase in gas costs<\/a>. 42.7% said they are just paying the price, and still driving the same amount.<\/p>\n<p>Over 60% said they are now paying between $75 and $100 to fill up their tanks, with 16% of those spending $100 each time they visited their local station.<\/p>\n<p>With this added expenditure, one might assume that an <a href=\" https:\/\/dev.way.com\/blog\/us-cities-most-ev-charging-stations\/#\/find\/nearest?fuel=ELEC\">electric vehicle<\/a> was becoming a more popular option, but for 41% of those asked, they still weren\u2019t sure. Just 28% said they were very likely to opt for an electric car next, while 32% said they were unlikely to go that route. EV purchases accounted for 4.5% of all car sales in the last quarter of 2021.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.way.com\/gas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-39941 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/save-on-gas-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"794\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wordwblog02.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/save-on-gas-1.png 794w, http:\/\/wordwblog02.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/save-on-gas-1-300x111.png 300w, http:\/\/wordwblog02.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/save-on-gas-1-768x284.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 794px) 100vw, 794px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ev-thoughts.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-38073\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ev-thoughts.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"617\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wordwblog02.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ev-thoughts.png 803w, http:\/\/wordwblog02.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ev-thoughts-300x201.png 300w, http:\/\/wordwblog02.way.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ev-thoughts-768x515.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 617px) 100vw, 617px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The reasons for the hesitancy? Two things \u2013 the price, and the fear of getting stuck in the middle of nowhere with no charger in sight. 50% of those asked said the cost of an electric car was just too steep, while 63% cited getting stuck with no chargers available as their biggest concern.
